MIL-DTL-24643/5 LSMDU Shipboard Cable

Mil-Spec Military part number MIL-DTL-24643/5 has one cable-type designation: LSMDU. The cable is rated for 600 volts and can be categorized by the Standard Identification Code using Methods 1 or 3.  24643/5 cords use thermoset insulation and have an outer cross-linked polyolefin jacket (XLPO). Each LSMDU cord has 19 conductors. These cables are unarmored and have a degaussing feature. All versions of the cord are watertight and have non-flexing service. They operate within a temperature range of -20°C to +90°C. These cables are permitted to penetrate bulkheads or watertight decks.

What does the cable designation LSMDU mean?

In the cable designation for LSMDU, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. M refers to multi-conductor. O refers to an oil-resistant cable, and S means that the cord features shielding.
