MIL-DTL-24643/26 LSDPS, LSTPS, LSFPS, LS7PS, LSDPSN, LSTPSN, LSFPSN, and LS7PSN Shipboard Cable

Mil-Spec Military part number MIL-DTL-24643/26 has eight cable-type designations: LSDPS, LSTPS, LSFPS, LS7PS, LSDPSN, LSTPSN, LSFPSN, and LS7PSN. The cable is rated for 600 volts and uses Standard Identification Code by Method 4.  24643/26 cords use thermoset insulation and have an outer silicone rubber jacket and braided aluminum armor. The specified number of stranded nickel-coated copper conductors are enclosed in extruded silicone rubber insulation, then glass braided. They are then cabled with fillers as needed to make a firm, well-rounded assembly, jacketed with a silicone rubber jacket, and armored with a braided aluminum braid.

All versions of the cord are watertight except for those that have an N ending (LSDPSN, LSTPSN, LSFPSN, and LS7PSN) and have non-flexing service. They operate within a temperature range of -20°C to +150°C. Watertight cables can operate in a wide variety of situations, including through bulkheads and between decks. Non-watertight cables can be used within one or two continuous compartments, but are not permitted to penetrate bulkheads or watertight decks.

What does the cable designation LSDPS mean?

In the cable designation for LSDPS, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable, D refers to double conductors, and PS refers to the fact that it is a power supply cable.

What does the cable designation LSDPSN mean?

In the cable designation for LSDPSN, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable, D refers to double conductors, PS refers to the fact that it is a power supply cable, and N indicates that the cable is not watertight.

What does the cable designation LSTPS mean?

In the cable designation for LSTPS, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable, T refers to three conductors, and PS refers to the fact that it is a power supply cable.

What does the cable designation LSTPSN mean?

In the cable designation for LSTPSN, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable, T refers to three conductors, PS refers to the fact that it is a power supply cable, and N indicates that the cable is not watertight.

What does the cable designation LSFPS mean?

In the cable designation for LSFPS, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable, F refers to four conductors, and PS refers to the fact that it is a power supply cable.

What does the cable designation LSFPSN mean?

In the cable designation for LSFPSN, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable, F refers to four conductors, PS refers to the fact that it is a power supply cable, and N indicates that the cable is not watertight.

What does the cable designation LS7PS mean?

In the cable designation for LS7PS, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable, 7 refers to seven conductors, and PS refers to the fact that it is a power supply cable.

What does the cable designation LS7PSN mean?

In the cable designation for LS7PSN, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable, 7 refers to seven conductors, PS refers to the fact that it is a power supply cable, and N indicates that the cable is not watertight.

Features and Benefits of M24643/26 Cords

  • Non-watertight
  • Watertight cables can operate in a wide variety of situations, including through bulkheads and between decks.
  • Thermoset insulation is ideal for settings where durability and stiffness are essential
  • Silicone/glass insulation is prized for numerous reasons. First of all, it has greater moisture resistance which reduces the rate of failure that can occur due to excessive moisture condensation in some vessels.
  • Silicone/glass insulation is also highly resistant to fire, and if burned, will generate significantly less smoke and corrosive or toxic gases than other insulation materials.
  • Armored cables tend to reduce electrical noise created by electromagnetic signals in the cable while also providing greater protection and durability compared to unarmored cables.
