MIL-DTL-24643/24 LSTCJX, LSTCKX, LSTCTX, LSTCJXN, LSTCKXN, and LSTCTXN Shipboard Thermocouple Cable

Military part number MIL-DTL-24643/24 has six cable-type designations: LSTCJX, LSTCKX, LSTCTX, LSTCJXN, LSTCKXN, and LSTCTXN.  24643/24 cords use thermoset insulation and have an outer cross-linked polyolefin jacket (XLPO). Color identification Code by Method 4. Two conductors cabled to form pair, one each of iron and constantan in LSTCJX; one each of chromel and alumel in LSTCKX; one each of copper and constantan in LSTCTX. Types LSTCJXN, LSTCKXN, and LSTCTXN: same construction, Non-Watertight.

These cords are also cabled with fillers, a binder, a silicone rubber jacket, and braided aluminum armor. All versions of the cord have non-flexing service. They operate within a temperature range of -20°C to +150°C. Watertight cables are permitted to penetrate bulkheads or watertight decks, whereas non-watertight cables may only be used in single or adjoining connected compartments.

What does the cable designation LSTCJX mean?

In the cable designation for LSTCJX, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. TC refers to Thermocouple, JX refers to Type J cable, and U refers to the fact that the cable is unarmored.

What does the cable designation LSTCJXN mean?

In the cable designation for LSTCJXN, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. TC refers to Thermocouple, JX refers to Type J cable, U refers to the fact that the cable is unarmored, and N refers to the fact that the cable is not watertight.

What does the cable designation LSTCKX mean?

In the cable designation for LSTCKX, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. TC refers to Thermocouple, KX refers to Type K cable, and U refers to the fact that the cable is unarmored.

What does the cable designation LSTCJXN mean?

In the cable designation for LSTCKXN, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. TC refers to Thermocouple, KX refers to Type K cable, U refers to the fact that the cable is unarmored, and N refers to the fact that the cable is not watertight.

What does the cable designation LSTCTX mean?

In the cable designation for LSTCTX, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. TC refers to Thermocouple, TX refers to Type T cable, and U refers to the fact that the cable is unarmored.

Features and Benefits of M24643/24 Cords

  • Watertight cables can operate in a wide variety of situations, including through bulkheads and between decks.
  • Thermoset insulation is ideal for settings where durability and stiffness are essential
  • Silicone/glass insulation has greater moisture resistance which reduces the rate of failure that can occur due to excessive moisture condensation in some vessels.
  • Silicone/glass insulation is also highly resistant to fire, and if burned, will generate significantly less smoke and corrosive or toxic gases than other materials.
