M24643/12

MIL-DTL-24643/12 LSTTOP Shipboard Telephone Cable

Mil-Spec Military part number MIL-DTL-24643/12 has one cable-type designation: LSTTOP. This shipboard telephone cable is rated for 300 volts and can be categorized by the Telephone Identification Code using Method 3.  24643/12 cords use thermoset insulation and have an outer cross-linked polyolefin jacket (XLPO). Each LSTTOP pair is comprised of either coated or uncoated copper conductors insulated in either Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) or in Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR) twisted into a pair. All versions of the cord are non-watertight and have flexing service. They operate within a temperature range of -20°C to +90°C. These cables are not permitted to penetrate bulkheads or watertight decks but are allowed to be used in continuous or connected cabins. Possible applications for this cable include communications systems, connecting audio, telephones, call bells, announcing systems, power supplies, and alarm systems. They also could be used for other interior communications or weapons systems if the application is within the specified voltage range.

What does the cable designation LSTTOP mean?

In the cable designation for LSTTOP, the letters LS refer to low smoke and halogen-free cable. T refers to twisted-pair, the second T refers to telephone cable, O refers to oil-resistant cable, and P refers to a portable cord.

M24643/12 Construction:

  • Conductors: Two stranded coated or uncoated copper connectors twisted into pairs.
  • Insulation: Either Cross-Linked Polyethylene (XLPE) or Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR)
  • Jacket: Low-Smoke, Halogen-Free (LSZH) Cross-Linked Polyolefin (XLPO) with surface markings

M24643/12 Ratings and Approvals

  • Mil-Spec:
    • MIL-DTL-24643
    • MIL-I-45208A
  • Navy Shipboard Spec: LSTTOP.
  • Voltage Rating: 300V

Features and Benefits of M24643/12 Cords

  • Non-watertight cable
  • Thermoset insulation is ideal for settings where durability and stiffness are essential
  • LSZH jacket is fire resistant and emits low smoke, which is ideal for shipboard settings which often have restricted ventilation
  • Cords with flexing service permit use in applications where repeated use may require flexing without damaging the cord’s internal conductors
